A cluster of changes: Norwegian word order

چکیده

Among the syntactic changes that can be observed in transition from Old Norwegian to Modern are following word order changes: loss of OV order, object shift a VP containing verb (non-finite or any subordinate clause), preverbal preposition, and topicalization bare head. The fact these all seemto occurat same timeis not accidental. was arguably VO language, like Norwegian, but unlike also possible.It shown it is possible derive sentences with VP, prepositions, topicalized heads only an structure. Therefore, when no longer available, other three structures could derived.
